Inspiration (or lack of it)

Ah, inspiration,
That indecisive muse of poets and writers,
Who comes and goes, sings then quiets,
Irregular, and always just out of sight.

Her song is a beauty.
It is one of the few truly beautiful
Products of the human mind
That arises, seemingly from nothing.

Can we train this frightful enchantress?
Get her to sing on mere command
And condemn her to do so forevermore?

I don’t know, but a word of advice:
Inspiration is a bird,
And birds sing to communicate.
